Since picking up the flute and recorder in third grade, DR Haught has made music an integral part of his life. He participated in school band and choir throughout all of elementary and middle school, later joining his high school instrumental program as well. In high school, DR was a member of the marching band, freshman band, symphonic band and orchestra. He participated in solo and ensemble, receiving a superior rating of I in all events. He studied the flute privately with Denise Rotavera-Krain from 2007-201, Jane Berkner from 2011-2013, and Lindsey Goodman from 2013-present.

At the age of 16, DR picked up the guitar, expanding his performance area greatly. He co-founded Blue Silence with fellow guitarist Michael Keating and went on to join The Order with his close friend and long-time collaborator James Sral. The Order eventually became The Unsung Heroes, who performs regularly in the Wooster area, and placed 3rd in the WaCPAC Battle of the Bands in 2010. In 2009, DR began to play the drums and bass, filling in on both duties at various times in Blue Silence. DR, James and his brother Andrew formed The Sun Stands Still in 2009 and released an EP of material in the summer of 2010. Both groups have plans to record and release new material and perform throughout Ohio in 2012.

With the help and encouragement of his high school band director, friends, and family, DR enrolled in Ashland University to pursue a degree in Music Education. There, he is a member of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association and the Dalcroze Society of America. He performs with the AU Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Flute Choir, and University Choir and acts as a librarian for the Ashland Area Community Band and other instrumental groups. DR recently toured Spain as a member of the Ashland University Jazz Orchestra and the Wingnuts Jazz Combo.

DR recently became the student director of AU's student-led a cappella group, Surround Sound. As the student director, he functions as a conductor and musical director, leading rehearsals. He also arranges material for the group, and is available as a freelance arranger in all genres (contact me for more information).
